Sumo wrestlers are fighters who don’t posses muscular physiques and do not practice a regular athlete’s training routine. All sumo wrestlers maintain their weight to be as possibly heavy as they can, making people wonder what could have made them fast with that kind of weight on them. The answer to that is their way of training and their unique fight diet. Gaining weight is very important for a sumo wrestler. They treat weight gain as part of their training for there are no weight divisions or weight limits in this sport. They can basically be as heavy as they want them to be. Actually, a Sumo wrestler’s daily calorie intake can reach as much as 8,000 kilo calories which is more than twice the calorie intake of an average male.

These kind of fighters starts their day at around 5:00 in the morning going directly to the place wherein they start they training with an empty stomach. They believe that strenuous training with an empty stomach is an advantage in the effort of gaining weight. It helps slow down the body’s metabolism making it more difficult to burn calories.

Around 11:00 in the morning, fighters take in their first meal of the day. For an average person, you can call it a feast for they are served with many different meats, vegetables and fish. It is a pretty big meal for they must eat and eat for them to gain weight. They call this meal a “Chankonabe” and practically, anything can go into chankonabe. This meal is very rich in protein and served with other side dishes. By not eating overnight and doing training first thing in the morning, a Sumo wrestler’s body is turned in to a fat storing mode. They can basically eat anything and everything what is served infront of them. Sumo wrestlers sit forming a circle while they eat 5 kilos of meat and a minimum of ten bowls of rice in one sitting.

Right after a heavy meal, they are instructed to go directly back to their bedrooms to take a long nap. By doing this, it helps sumo wrestlers to effectively gain weight faster as all the foods are being stored as fat in their body.

Around 6:00 to 7:00 in the evening, these fighters would come back to the dining table – yes, for dinner. One may say that such fight diet regimen and habits are unhealthy. It may be true as Sumo wrestlers usually die at an earlier age as compared with an average adult male. Obesity is a risk factor for different ailments, diseases and complications that can wear out body.

Though it has not been proven scientifically why such fighters die early, they still live on what they believe, continuing the tradition that is being passed on from generations to generations. Sumo wrestlers believe that these are the methods, the fight diet and habits that they need to follow to become great fighters.

If you’re living in a city with a rising crime rate or just want to have self confidence about you’re abilities to defend yourself, kickboxing would be the right choice for you. Kickboxing not only trains you for self defense but it helps you in maintaining personal fitness and inculcates athletic competitiveness. It’s an easily accessible technique which can be learnt without spending much.

Since you are required to use both your hands and feet, physical fitness is a must in order to learn kickboxing. In order to get the fitness that is required for kickboxing, you will have to do kickboxing training. There are a number of ways in which you can train for kickboxing. How you do kickboxing training depends entirely on your discipline and determination to learn the technique. If you’re a self confident person and can exercise self discipline, you can train for kickboxing without paying a penny through books and guides. Pay a visit to your local library and get a book with training guidelines for kickboxing.

A more common method of training for kickboxing is to enroll in a training programme at your local gym or at your home. Most new learners are of the view that an environment outside their home like the gym would get the best out of them and they would train better there. One advantage that you would get if you opt for his method is that you would be able to make use of the special kickboxing equipment at the gym or wherever the programme is being conducted.

For those people who prefer the comfort of their home, they can exercise for kickboxing at home. You can remain at home and train by making use of DVD products related to kickboxing. Make sure that you get DVDs from a well-reputed series which will help you learn in the longer term. This way, you won’t run out of material in a short time and will make good progress. DVDs from unheard of companies and people can be very frustrating as the content in them may not be authentic or work in a set sequence.

The first and last thing you need to remember about martial arts is that it is a field of discipline that is supposed to prepare you for combat. It is not simply a set of movements that look great to spectators. Every movement, every breath done by the martial artist is meant to accomplish something during a combat encounter. If you are ready for the idea of using your martial arts skills for combat situations, then you are ready to train and progress in martial arts.

Martial arts can be subdivided as to what skills they seem to prioritize – this will tell you what types of martial arts equipment you need to use. For striking, you may need the “wooden dummy” that is used as Chinese martial arts equipment – this type of Chinese martial arts equipment tries to train your mind to anticipate where angles of attack would come from. For kicking sports like Taekwondo, the necessary martial arts equipment to use would be a mouth-guard and a head-guard (for both male and female jins or fighters.) Male jins need other martial arts equipment like a crotch guard or sport cup so that their groin is not exposed to injury. Chest protectors are standard martial arts equipment for amateur matches and Olympic-level matches. However, in real life you should expect such protective martial arts equipment to be absent so some sparring matches involve absence of any protective gear, so you get used to being in real-life combat situations.

Uniforms are standard martial arts equipment for nearly all martial arts nowadays. Often, you can distinguish what type of martial arts is being done based on what the fighters are wearing. But uniforms are not just pleasant to look at – since they are made of thick material, they are pretty durable so that they can withstand constant strikes and friction during combat situations. Uniforms nowadays are also made of breathable material like thick cotton so that fighters don’t overheat or feel too uncomfortable in the heat of a match.

Since martial arts were developed for combat, often fighters or martial artists might be members of the military. In the Western context then, it may be necessary to have access to important martial arts equipment such as strength training equipment. Though in the past, the weight of your opponent may have been enough to workout with, nowadays many martial arts recognize that strength training is quite important too. So if you can find a way to buy your own gym equipment (as your investment into necessary martial arts equipment) or at least rent them by the hour, that would help you develop strength and power for your matches.

In many Chinese martial arts, there are other forms of martial arts equipment that Western martial arts do not require. Some Chinese disciplines will require you to break wooden blocks or planks with your fist. This simple yet staple among Chinese martial arts equipment tests your power, focus, and ability to marshal your chi (energy) into your fist where it meets the wood. Another type of necessary martial arts equipment for the Chinese martial arts would be concrete blocks. Some instructors may ask you to break these concrete blocks with your fist, feet, or even your head.

Do invest in the type of martial arts equipment appropriate for your discipline. Martial arts equipment will help you be a stronger, better and more confident fighter in the end.

Tae Kwon Do is a true martial art, originating over 2000 years ago, with its roots in ancient Korea. Today, it is the world’s most widely practice martial art. As the name implies, Tae Kwon Do is more than a sport, it is a way of life. Tae Kwon Do is a modern martial art, characterized by its fast, high and spinning kicks. Tae Kwon Do is now of course, an official Olympic sport.

Being a martial artist is an excellent method of keeping fit. Although there are numerous martial art forms to pick from, Tae Kwon Do is undoubtedly the favourable, and the most practical. And while many understand the benefits of such exercise, the plain fact is most people have no idea how to begin.

Tae Kwon Do is seen as a sport than a martial art, but this feature makes the art form more readily conveyable to the general public. In short, nearly anybody can practice Tae Kwon Do, and with commitment, nearly anyone can become a fearsome martial artist.

Tae Kwon Do teaches the use of hands and feet evenly, with the emphasis on becoming proficient at using both the right and left sides of the body for defence and attack. Possibly more significantly than anything else, it stresses endurance and mental toughness, along with using sound skill and being in charge.

Due to the growing busy lifestyle we have, many people have very little or maybe no time at all to spend getting and staying fit, but with most Tae Kwon Do training, there are always weekend day time classes you could attend.

One of the benefits of Tae Kwon Do is how fast people could see the outcome of their hard work and in return, a fantastic tool to motivate them to continue training, before they know it, they would have incorporate Tae Kwon Do into their busy lifestyle.

Tae Kwon Do teaches various combination of hand and foot techniques and with the correct instructions and training, students will easily improve and shine on the easiest moves which will motivate them to carry on training and proceed to the next level.

Beside numerous health advantages in Tae kwon Do, increased heart rate, increased muscle tone and mass, increased in stamina, it also teaches the improvement of confidence and perseverance in the course of the training.

Which Krav Maga classes are right for you? It seems like Krav Maga (KM) classes are popping up all around the country. However, since KM is still catching on, schools and studios can be hard to find if you are not in a major metropolitan area.

The first tip is to do a search on Google for a KM center near you. Also, realize that these schools go by varying names: school, institute, academy, and studio. Try all forms of these words to cast the widest “search net” on the Internet.

Also, realize that many martial arts centers have KM classes, but may not have “Krav Maga” in the name of their school. Fitness clubs or gyms may have KM classes as part of their programs as well.

Another good resource for KM schools are the association web sites. You will find over 240 training centers across the country. You can also do a similar search at the Krav Maga Federation site. And the Worldwide Directory of Krav Maga Clubs has an excellent listing of classes and studios.

If there is not a studio close to you, try attending a workshop that is traveling to a nearby city. Commando Krav Maga led by Moni Azik has workshop dates all around the country. It might be a great way to learn a few moves in an intensive weekend that you can practice for months to come.

Another alternative to a physical studio is a KM training video. While not as optimal as a live class, it may be your only option due to location and price concerns. There is even a KM BootCamp that is a private membership site online if a physical institute is not a viable option.

Besides location, other factors that affect your training are schedule and cost. Most KM schools will post their schedule on their website, but it is always a good idea to call first before you drop in. Schedules change over time, and you may be looking at an old KM schedule from a previous semester.

Most centers will also post the price on their web site, but again call to verify. Lots of studios will offer free introductory classes to make sure Krav is for you. The costs of KM classes vary widely according to whether they are live classes, videos, or traveling workshops.

Kung fu is well known in the Chinese history. Over its long history it has developed as a unique combination of exercise, practical self-defense, self-discipline and art. Many people believe that Kung fu is a term which describes a single martial art, like Taekwondo, Judo, or Aikido. Actually, Kung fu is a general term which includes hundreds of styles of Chinese martial arts. Kung fu styles are various, such as Long Fist, Eagle Claw, and Taiji Quan.

Chinese Kung fu is a precious treasure that belongs not only to China but to the whole world. Anyone who has seen classical Chinese Kung Fu movies will be deeply impressed by the Chinese Wushu, which is called Kung Fu or Chinese martial arts in the west.

In China today, Wushu is the preferred word to describe Chinese Martial Arts. The word Kung Fu was first used by a western Jesuit Missionary named Pere Amoit after witnessing exercises and training regimen in China. He called it “Cong Fou” in his personal journals. The term “Kuo-Shu” was popular in China until about 1930. This term has since been popularized by the Taiwanese Government to describe Chinese Martial Arts.

Chinese Martial Arts known as Chinese Kung-fu by most foreigners is a traditional Chinese physical activity with thousands of years of history. As a precious element of China’s cultural heritage, Chinese Kung fu has also won its name all around the world for its broad and deep meanings and its Oriental features, which cover it with a mysterious veil.

The origin of Chinese Kung fu, according to some historical records and antique discoveries, can be dated back even to prehistoric times. Survival back then meant scrambling to take or protect food from others and animals. Kicking, boxing and blocking were a part of daily life. In the later primitive societies these skills began to appear at ceremonial rituals where they were combined with dance to represent their heroes, thus forming the earliest series of Kong-fu moves and performances.

In taekwondo the color of the belts vary, as they signify the progression of rank, and how well the student is advancing. It can be a long and labored time for the student to move up the ranks, and the amount of time it takes will depend on there knowledge and how well they adapt to learning the different techniques of the art. Below are listed the different colors and belts in this martial art along with what they mean.

White belt
The white belt symbolizes birth or the beginning for the stylist. Students who wear this belt are just on the start of there road of learning and picking up as much knowledge as they can about this fighting sytem so they can continue learning.

Yellow belt.
A yellow belt signifies the first ray of sunshine to fall on the student, giving them new power to continue progressing with this martial art. Students who have a yellow belt have taken a big step in knowledge and broadened there minds about this great style of fighting and defense.

Green belt
A green belt shows the student is growing, or that a seed has been planted and is beginning to grow into a plant. A green belt symbolizes the students are continuing to progress down the road of learning with this martial art and are redefining and improving there techniques that they have learned.

Blue belt
Blue belt is representative of the sky and that the plant is continuing to grow and is heading towards the sky. Students with blue belts are increasing there knowledge of this style more and more and are moving higher up in the ranks with the plant growing higher and higher. As this stage more information on the art will be learned so the student progresses even more so.

Red belt.
The red belt is the symbol of the sun with increasing strength giving energy to the plant to grow even more. Students with red belts are higher up in rank and the plant is continuing its growth towards the sun. Red belts also caution students to be careful at this point as there knowledge and techniques have progressed to such a rate.

Black belt
Black belt is as high as you can go. The black symbolizes the darkness that is out there which is beyond the light of the sun. When a student is given a black belt they can begin to start teaching other students. Black belts can see who are the best students. Black belts can train others and proceed in the never ending cycle of improving ones training.

The type of uniform you need depends upon the type of martial arts training you’re taking. In the Japanese practice of judo, the judoka uses his opponent’s strength against him, and therefore needs a thick jacket that is difficult to grab. For that reason, judo uniforms – or judogi – typically consist of a pants and a quilted cotton jacket that is much thicker than karate jackets. There are also single weave jackets, which are lighter and more useful in long practice sessions to prevent overheating, and thick double weave jackets that are essential for competition.

In contrast to karate uniforms, judo uniforms, and tae kwon do uniforms, which are cotton and feature a crossover front with a belt closure, traditional kung fu jackets are typically made from silk and feature a front button closure. Those practicing kendo – the Japanese equivalent of fencing – usually wear a hakama and a kimono.

Once you’ve decided that you want to start training a martial art, you’ll need to decide which one is best for you. Of course, your choice might be dictated by the schools available in your area, but if you’re lucky you’ll have the choice of at least a few different types. There are many different types of martial arts (and even variations within the basic types) so it’s important to make sure that you research the techniques and features to find the best fit for your lifestyle and needs. This general explanation of the six most popular styles in the United States can help you get started on the decision.

It’s also important to note that there are as many interpretations of the martial arts styles as there are instructors. Students also interpret the class differently than other students in the same class, so other people’s opinions are not always the best determiner of what style you should pursue. While you are trying to find the martial art that’s right for you, it is helpful to also try a few classes to get a feel for the style, instructor and school.
